Towers Rugby Academy’s educational programme will produce talented and self-motivated individuals who will be role models on and off the pitch.
Towers School already hosts one of the most successful Rugby Academies in Kent, but with an improved partnership with Premiership club, London Irish having recently been forged, Towers Rugby is looking ahead to a brighter future full of even bigger and better things.
Affiliation to London Irish provides many benefits to our students, one of which is specialist training sessions and support with the development of rugby across the school.
“We have worked with Towers Rugby Academy for the past few seasons. Every year we have seen the schools rugby programme continue to grow and we are proud to have Towers Rugby Academy affiliated to us. We are delivering weekly coaching sessions within the school and supporting the Director of Rugby, Darren Reeves, with additional strength and conditioning, nutrition and goal setting/analysis delivery. This is a strong partnership that we look forward to strengthening further throughout the coming seasons.” – Mike Crump, Head of Community at London Irish
Students can join the rugby academy regardless of the course they choose. Rugby would be beneficial to tie in with the Community Sports Leaders Award. Alongside their rugby training, students will be expected to have a full timetable of academic or vocational courses, which will enable them to take the next step onto their chosen career path, whether that be into the world of work, apprenticeship or university.
Strength and Conditioning
Being a high impact, full contact sport, there is a high level of physical fitness and dedication to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is something we expect our students to have. All academy players will have access to the multi-gym on school site where specialist fitness coaches can be designed to suit individual needs.
Through coaching sessions delivered by our fully RFU qualified Director of Rugby, or our specialist training from London Irish, irrespective of the individual standard on entry to the Rugby Academy, every student WILL improve. Players will be given the support to improve their skills as a team and individually through tactical awareness and game understanding.
As rugby is a seasonal sport, Towers are keen to ensure the activity levels for students doesn’t taper off, and as such, we offer a variety of smaller courses alongside the match play and training, further enabling our students to use their rugby experience in their next steps. During the off season, players will be given the opportunity to take the IRB Rugby Ready course, the RFU Level 1 course and the Entry Level Referee Award course.
