Football Academy trip to France
We're home safe and well from our 4 day trip to Vieux-Conde in Northern France and our boys really have done themselves and Towers proud, not only with their achievements on the pitch, but also their conduct off of the field too.
Over the first two days, we played four group games which resulted with us finishing second in the group after two wins, one draw and one loss. It meant we qualified to play the semi final places of winners - 4th position.
On our final day we faced an excellent team from Paris who had topped their group. We were playing for a place in the final and our boys really rose to the challenge. We were well organised, disciplined, and played with a real energy that resulted in a 1-0 for Towers and a place in the final against the Caribbean team from the French island of Guadeloupe. The Guadeloupe Academy were on a 6 week tour of France with many scouts watching them at the tournament for professional contracts for teams in France so we knew it wasn't going to be easy!
Unfortunately we went down to 10 men very early on in the game which meant it was really difficult to get a foothold in the match. The boys gave absolutely everything and ran themselves in to the ground, but Guadeloupe made their extra man count and they defeated us 1-0.
The boys were obviously absolutely gutted, but for us to finish runners up as a school in a club tournament was a huge achievement and they can all hold their heads up high.
Their behaviour off of the pitch was impeccable and they mixed really well with other nationalities and have made friends that I'm sure they'll be in contact with for years to come.
A special mention must go to Aaron Quashie who picked up the 'Player of the tournament' at the awards ceremony. Another fantastic achievement, and another reason to be proud of our students.
