Our first DofE fundraiser!

Mrs Pegg, Mr Gaygan, Mrs Sperling and 6 Year 12 students who are all currently completing their Gold DofE Award, are taking on the daunting feat of climbing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in May half term of this year. This has all been made possible by the generosity of Mountain Leader Mick Fenwick, who has volunteered his time and experience to us for this challenge.

The challenge is a 24 miles (38.6km) round trip route, and includes an ascent of 1585m (5200ft). We will be aiming to complete this in under 12 hours. The hills form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The 3 Peaks that we will be climbing are Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. 

We are raising money for our Duke of Edinburgh fund that will continue to grow our already amazing store cupboard of equipment, it will allow us to continue to to build training resources to give our students the best in-house DofE experience and to keep breaking down the financial barriers our students and families face, by covering any cost of the DofE for them, this can include from as little as their registration fees to their entire equipment and campsite costs. Our Gold award students will also require to pay for a 5-day residential and some of the funds will go towards the cost of this, so that they have a wider variety to choose from. 

Since introducing the DofE 16 months ago we have always said that money will not be the reason why a student cannot make the choice to take part. By removing this barrier we have allowed a number of our young people to have the opportunity to develop themselves and to step out of their comfort zones, building their confidence and resilience. This is why we do what we do every single day with amazing support from SLT and the inspiring DofE Staff Team.
