RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE TABLES

Towers is a truly inclusive school. The school’s moral purpose, which is to meet the diverse needs of all the students and enable every student to succeed, is of primary importance, regardless of league tables. As a school, therefore, we don’t exclude either temporarily or permanently.

In addition, there has been a realisation that some schools, in addition to excluding, also have high levels of ‘off-rolling’ - a practice where pupils who are expected to do poorly in their exams are removed from mainstream schools before they sit the tests. This has been recognised as a major problem by Ofsted and has been widely reported, including in The Times, The Guardian and The Independent. At Towers, we do not off-roll.

However, because of our inclusive nature, there is an inevitable impact on our KS4 published results. So, on this page, we are showing the results as seen alongside other schools on the DfE website. However, we are also sharing our figures with some specific students’ results taken out. We are clear that these students’ needs were met and they have gone on to success post-16 but their impact on our outcomes was disproportionate. This is not an excuse, but should show a more honest picture of the performance of the majority of students at Towers. We prioritise our moral purpose over league table outcomes but want to be able to give a clear picture of how well our students do academically, when they are on site and in lessons every day, because they have worked really hard and deserve to be recognised for it.

In our current Year 11, all of our students have had a chance to study all of the Ebacc subjects up until KS4. Currently, we expect over 80% of the cohort to be entered for the full Ebacc.
