Year 9 Choices 2021
We hope that you and your family enjoyed the half term break. We would like to welcome you back and share more information about Key Stage Four Choices and the support on offer.
GT Scholars Careers Day
It is still not too late to sign up to the GT Scholars Careers Day which will take place online on Saturday 27th February 2021 from 9:30am to 4:00pm. As parents, you do not have to attend the whole day and your son/daughter can choose which sessions they would like to attend. Tickets must be booked online at: https://careersummit.gtscholars.org/
Virtual Taster Sessions
During the week beginning Monday 1st March the school will be holding remote taster sessions via Google Meet. Students will need to check their school emails for invitations to the sessions in which they expressed interest before half term.
DR Support Meeting
In addition, you and your child will be invited to a DR Support Meeting on Thursday 4th March. This offers the opportunity to check in with their tutor and discuss: how successful remote learning has been; the return to school; and any support required.
Key Stage Four Choices Website
During the week beginning the 8th March, we will launch our Choices website which will allow your child to explore all of the different options they can study at Key Stage Four. Each page has videos from teaching staff talking you through what studying each course will be like. We highly recommend you and your child setting aside time to explore the site.
Key Stage Four Choices Live Zoom
On Thursday 11th March, Mr Billings will be hosting a Key Stage 4 Information Evening via Zoom, this will provide an opportunity for you to hear from the Principal and to have any questions answered about the Key Stage Four Choices Process. The booking for this evening can be made here - https://forms.gle/72mNvg5zj7c7TwvD8
Students will then make their choices by completing the Key Stage Four Choices Online Form by Thursday 25th March; this form will be available on the Key Stage Four Choices website.
Information about Labour Market - Yr 9 Choices
The Government recognises that there is a significant mismatch between the careers that young people want to pursue and the opportunities available. They hope that you will use Labour Market Information to understand the salaries and promotion opportunities for different jobs, and the volume and location of vacancies across different sectors. This information about career paths and the labour market should be accessed and used to inform the decisions that are being made to select options.
The suggested website to access a range of sources for Labour Market Information is https://www.lmiforall.org.uk/
