16 - 19 Bursary Fund
The 16–19 Bursary Fund is a government initiative designed to support students aged 16 to 19 in continuing their education. At Towers School and Sixth Form Centre, we are committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their financial circumstances. The bursary can help cover essential costs associated with education, such as travel, books, equipment, and other learning-related expenses.
Who Is Eligible?
There are two types of bursaries available:
- Vulnerable Bursary
You may be eligible for a bursary of up to £1,200 per year if you fall into one of the following categories:
- In or recently left local authority care
- Receiving Income Support or Universal Credit in your own name
- Receiving Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and either Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Discretionary Bursary
This bursary is awarded based on individual need and household income. Priority is given to students whose families are in receipt of benefits or have a low household income. Awards are made on a case-by-case basis and may be used to support:
- Travel to and from school
- Educational materials and resources
- Field trips and other course-related costs
- Costs related to work experience or university applications
- The costs of attending university interviews and open days
